Post: Do you remember those stripes on the headlights in the past?

When the front of the car lights up, a beam of light spreads out, as if drawing a curtain over the darkness ahead. But now if you look at new cars, the headlights are as smooth as mirrors, without any wrinkles. What’s going on? Why did the headlights of cars in the past have to have so many small stripes, but these designs have disappeared now? To put it bluntly, this is a big upgrade caused by technological progress.
In the early years, the headlights of cars, to be honest, were just small guys with low technological content. The most important part is called the reflector bowl, a purely flat metal structure that reflects all the light beams emitted by the light bulb outward. What’s wrong with this thing? Well, you can imagine it: it’s like shining a flashlight straight in the middle of the road, and the result is only a small, thin bright spot in the middle of the road. All around, it’s all black. If you are traveling at night, that narrow beam of light is really not enough. Not only can you not see the surrounding environment clearly, but it is also easy for people to misjudge the distance. What should you do at this time? The designers thought about it and added those dense little stripes to the headlight cover.
These stripes are actually a kind of dispersion device, which is called astigmatism glass in professional terms. Simply put, it can break up the strong light beam that was originally concentrated into a point of glare, and make it evenly spread over the entire road surface. It’s like throwing a stone into the water. What was originally a drop of water has now become a circle of ripples that expand. Moreover, these magical little stripes can also project a small amount of remaining weak light toward traffic signs, high obstacles and other places, ensuring that drivers can see more comprehensively and safely. This plan was really wonderful at the time! Without these stripes, driving at night might have become one of the most feared problems for car buyers at that time.
But times have changed, and we can’t always rely on the old way to make a living, right? With the development of technology, new cars have undergone earth-shaking changes from the inside out, and headlights are not idle either. Hehe, the traditional reflective bowl that was once responsible for focusing and reflecting functions has been transformed into a more complex, sophisticated and intelligent new version! The curved surface design used in modern cars is not a simple circle, nor a rigid right-angle cut, but a special shape after multi-dimensional calculation. It looks random, but in fact every fold line and every angle is for maximum efficiency. The biggest advantage of doing this is that you can directly adjust a wide and soft lighting range, solving the problem from the root. No need to use any additional tools to help!
