Post: What parts does a shock absorber contain?

When it comes to shock absorbers, there are multiple components involved, and each of them can fail. Most repair manuals include a chassis inspection, at which point the mechanic should also check the shock absorbers. If in doubt, ask the mechanic before repairing.
Suspension: The basic principle of suspension is to add a spring between the chassis and the wheel. This way, the spring ensures that the wheel stays on the road, so the car doesn’t lose grip when it hits a pothole or bump. The spring absorbs the impact so that it doesn’t affect the comfort of the car or the passengers. Springs are very inflexible and can’t withstand too much extension or compression. Therefore, there is a shock absorber that can help make the movement smoother and softer.
Shock absorbers: Shock absorbers are additional protection for the suspension, so that it doesn’t stretch or compress too much. It also dampens the movement of the spring itself, allowing the car to settle down faster.
Shock absorbers: There are rubber pads on the suspension to ensure that in extreme situations the piston doesn’t just hit the bottom or top of the suspension, but stops more gently.
Wishbone (carrier/rocker arm): The wishbone is used to fix the spring and shock absorber to the chassis. To reduce road noise and rumble, rubber bushings are placed on top of the wishbones. It’s rare for a wishbone to break, but the bushings and/or rubber can develop defects over time. If the wishbone isn’t working properly, the tires can wear unevenly, as the wishbone ensures the deck is at the correct angle to the road. Wishbone defects can also damage the braking system and brake pads.
Stabilizer bars: When the car turns, there’s a risk that the tires will tilt. The higher the speed and the tighter the turn, the greater the forces on the tires. If the angle between the tires and the road is not right, one set of tires can come off the road, and to counteract this, anti-roll bars are fixed between the two front tires and the two rear tires.
