Post: What should your car service include

What should your car service include?
If you take your car in for an interim service (usually every 6 months or 6,000 miles), not all aspects will be checked in detail. A full service (usually every 12 months or 12,000 miles) is more comprehensive and will usually check all the details listed below.
Fluids
The service technician will check your vehicle’s engine oil level and top it up or replace it if necessary. The condition of the oil filter will also be checked and replaced if necessary. The service includes checking that there is enough windshield washer fluid in the vehicle. The engine coolant and power steering fluid will also be topped up if necessary.
Brakes
A full inspection of the brakes will be performed. This will include checking that the brake fluid is sufficient and in good condition. The lines that carry the brake fluid will also be checked, and the brake pads will be monitored to ensure they are at the correct depth. All of these elements can be replaced if deemed necessary.
Tires
The tires are inspected for visible damage such as cracks and punctures. The service also includes ensuring that the tires have the minimum required tread depth and are inflated to the necessary pressure level.
Electrical System
The important electrical equipment in the vehicle will be tested. These devices include the battery, alternator, and starter motor. The battery will be checked for leaks and visible signs of damage. The wiring will also be checked for signs of wear and damage.
Instruments
All services include testing to ensure that the electronic instruments (tachometer, speedometer, odometer, etc.) are functioning properly. All gauges and warning lights will be checked, and the horn will also be tested.
Windshield
Both windshields will be checked for damage, as well as the front and rear windshield washers and wipers
Engine
All engine components will be rigorously tested and inspected. This includes checking the transmission and rear axle, radiator, coolant hoses, clutch, air and fuel filters, auxiliary drive belts, fuel lines, spark plugs, and exhaust system. It also includes a thorough inspection of the driveshaft joints and guards, suspension links, ball joints, and shock absorbers.
Car Interior
During a comprehensive service, the interior of the car is also inspected. The seatbelts will be tested to ensure that they are fully functional in the event of a crash. All mirrors (interior and exterior) are checked to ensure that they are in good condition, as are the seats, interior lights, doors, and locks. The interior inspection also includes making sure that the handbrake is functioning properly.
Wheels
In addition to a comprehensive inspection of the tires, the wheels are also thoroughly inspected. The wheel bearings and balance are properly checked, and the wheel alignment and suspension are also checked.
Vehicle Roading
After all of these components have been checked and tested, the vehicle is also road tested to ensure that the vehicle operates efficiently and that there will be no problems when starting the engine and the car is driven.
